January 25th, 2008This morning I sit in Nashville, TN and have the privilege of reporting that we are seeing God’s Hands moving in the situation that my father in-law, Everett Halsey is facing.
First the good news. He had surgery for the removal of the cancer on Wednesday. The surgery went well, without complications. He is in ICU at IU Medical Center, in Indianapolis, IN. May I go on record and say, if you ever find yourself in need of extreme medical care, put IU Med on your horizon.
Here is a brief overview of the last two weeks.
When we arrived in Elkhart, IN on January 13th, I was not sure my father in-law was going to make it to surgery. He had suffered his second bacterial infection and was headed to surgery to address a blocked stint. Needless to say, I was glad we got to see him prior to that surgery, however, I was hoping each family member would arrive in time.
On Wednesday of the following week, we found out a bed was available at IU Med, and Dad made a mid night journey to Indianapolis, via an ambulance.
The family in Elkhart was exhausted following two weeks of intense emotions, so Nancy and I encouraged them to stay in Elkhart and rest, while we went to Indy and stood the gap for the family. Dad made incredible progress in the day leading up to the surgery. There was know doubt that he was in the right place and the right medical support. God provided for each need, from Doctors, Nurses, and roommates. Each step found Jesus holding our hands and guiding our steps. As a side note, when we arrived, we did not have clear understanding on how to find Dad or where we would stay, each of these issues were addressed, and the details maybe shared in future blogs.
The Doctor preforming the surgery, Dr. Nakeeb, was very strait forward in what laid before dad, and there was a peace that prevailed that can only be summed up in one word, grace.
The family, in the most part arrived over the weekend, including Julia and Jamie, Sarah, Chloe, and Eli had traveled up with Nancy and I. Each of us had opportunity to encourage Dad and witness to others. I would say, that Jesus was walking the halls and the voices of prayers and song filled the air. Matter of fact, one of the nurses asked if we would continue singing, as it brought peace to all that could hear.
Well, the journey will continue and difficulty lies ahead, but let me say. our Lord Jesus is present and He is receiving glory as we walk with Him.
Blessings as we journey together!
